My mornings begin somewhere between 5:30am and 6:00am every morning depending on how many times I hit the snooze button. I usually leave work anywhere between 5:00pm and 6:00pm. After I leave the office, it’s time to put on the wife and mommy hat and get stuff done. That can mean picking my nine-year old up from after school care, taking him to any extracurricular practices, running errands, cooking, washing, and the list goes on. Needless to say, by the time I’m done, I am EXHAUSTED.
In the past, I would just suck it up and tell myself that this was my life and I had to keep it moving. However, over the past couple of months, I have realized that it is important to take time for myself and find a way to relax during the evenings to recharge for the next day. If this sounds familiar and you need some help in the relaxing department, here are five easy ways to relax after a long day.
I’m usually on the phone all day long. I’m either answering emails, returning calls, checking voicemails, etc… After juggling two phones (company and personal) all day, by the time I get home, I feel like my brain is fried. So, I have been making an effort to unplug for at least an hour in the evenings. When I get home, I place my phone in my bedroom and I’ll go in the kitchen to cook, talk to my husband and kids, or eat dinner without the distraction of my phone. This has really helped my sanity.
Change Into Comfy Clothes
There is nothing like coming home taking my bra off and changing into a comfy t-shirt or sweatpants. Changing out of my work clothes sends a signal to my brain that it is time to relax.
Read a Book
Although I don’t do this as often as I would like, when I do, I really enjoy it. There is nothing like curling up in the bed or on the couch with a good book. This is certainly a great way to relax and focus on something you really enjoy.
Enjoy a Glass of Wine
This is one of my favorite ways to relax after work. My wine of choice is Cabernet Sauvignon. Whatever your choice, pour up a glass and enjoy. It’s a super easy way to relax after a long day at work.
Take a Relaxing Bath
My tub is my absolute favorite place in my house. There are evenings where I literally spent two hours in the tub. Yes, I get wrinkly and all but it so worth it. After a super stressful day at work, there’s nothing like slipping into a hot bath. My favorite product to use is the Dr. Teal’s Epsom Salt Soothe & Sleep Lavender Soaking Solution. If you really want to turn the relaxation up a notch. Have a glass of wine while you are in the tub! Pure relaxation at its finest!
