How to Use Coconut Oil as Makeup Remover

coconut-oil-coconutsA couple of months ago, I started on a journey to replace some of my everyday essential drug store products with more natural products. As I’m getting older, I am trying to be more conscientious of what I put on and in my body. The first product that I decided to find a natural alternative to was makeup remover wipes.  During the time, I really wanted to change my skin care regimen in hopes to one day becoming foundation free and having that clear, glowing, even toned complexion in which I have!  I will share more on how I achieved foundation free skin in another post.

So, off to Google  I went to search for natural makeup remover wipes.  While searching, I stumbled upon a post about raw coconut oil and different ways to use it.  In which one of them being makeup remover.  Being that I have the largest pores ever, I run from anything with the word “oil” in it when it comes to my face.  So, I automatically deemed it a no for me.  However, little did I know, coconut oil is an excellent grease cutter. As I kept reading about all the benefits of being able to use it from head-to-toe plus the fact that it was budget friendly, I decided to give it a try.  Boy, I am glad I did!!  It has so many other added benefits besides removing makeup.  I have listed some instructions below on how to use it.  Give it a try! You just may make it a part of your everyday skincare routine as I have.

How to use it:

Step 1:  Scoop a very small amount of coconut oil out of the jar (a little goes a long way).  If  the oil is still in the solid state, rub it between your fingers until it becomes liquid.

Step 2:  Close your eyes and gently massage the oil over your entire face in a circular motion including your eyelids and lashes.  In cases of long-wear mascara, you may need to open your eyes and use your finger to apply a little oil directly on your top and bottom lashes.  Don’t panic if a little oil gets into your eye! It is not harmful and washes right out.

Step 3: Use a warm, wet washcloth to wipe off the oil. The oil will come off easily without any excessive rubbing, then rinse your face with warm water.  Tah-dah! You’re done and now you have a smooth moisturized makeup free face and ready to start your cleansing regimen.  After trying it for a while, you will begin to see other benefits kick in.  I’m willing to bet you will not buy regular makeup remover again.  Check out the list below of other benefits of using coconut oil.

Benefits of using coconut of on your skin!

  • Coconut oil is a great skin moisturizer
  • Coconut oil is the ideal deep cleanse
  • Coconut oil offers protection from the sun
  • Coconut oil prevents premature aging

Coconut oil can serve  as a one stop shop for your face from cleansing, to moisturizing, sunscreen, and anti-aging!

To remove my makeup, I use Shea Moisture 100% Extra Virgin Coconut Oil.

I have been using coconut for a while now as a makeup remover and a mosturizer…it’s great!! I have seen a lot of improvement in my skin. I’m not ready for foundation free skin yet, but hopefully soon. Can’t wait for your post on your secrets, maybe I can get there sooner than expected!!
